Day Eight: They blinded us with Science!!
Our final day was filled with curiosity and wonder as we spent much of today at Questicon, Canberra’s national science museum. Students loved all the hands on exhibits and the two live shows exploring liquid nitrogen and sound.
Our afternoon was spent at the national museum of democracy which was located at the old parliament. Students learned that during WW1 our government were ‘strapped for cash’ and built a smaller temporary parliament house. When the government saved enough money they later moved into the new current, much larger parliament house! Whilst sitting in the old parliament seats we role played a debate about whether or not the gifted ornate speaker chair from Britain should be moved to the new parliament building – this was an actual debate that occurred in parliament before the big move. This issue apparently took the parliament months to come to a final decision!
The students enjoyed lunch in the old parliament gardens and we were blessed with some warm sunshine as students enjoyed having some down time and challenging Mr Lituri to a handstand competition.
We had enough time to go back to Questicon and enjoy the last level of exhibits including the gravity defying free fall slide! Only the bravest of the group attempted the drop!
We are currently at the airport all checked in and waiting for the boarding call! Perth here we come!!
