Day 4 - Future Olympians!
This morning we were treated to a bit more of a sleep-in and awoke to beautiful views of Mount Panorama.
We headed off on our first leg of the road trip to Canberra. BUT we couldn't leave without a couple of laps of burning the rubber on the famous Bathurst Racetrack.
The over 3 hour trip was broken up with stops for morning tea, lunch and a couple good movies - Inside Out and Big Hero 6. However, the overwhelming favourite was episodes of age old "Mr Bean".
We arrived at the Australian Institute of Sport ahead of schedule so we relaxed and played on the grassed area before splurging in the gift shop.
We were lucky enough to have a guided tour of the institute's state of the art facilities including their multi-purpose arena, gymnastics centre, gym, volleyball centre and a 17 million dollar swimming pool! After seeing some athletes training, we were keen to give them a run (haha) for their money!
So into the Sportex Centre where we could try our hand at matching the athletes skills and fitness by experiencing some interactive simulated activities. These showed us what the athletes see and go through, first hand during their events. Some of us were put to the test by racing each other in wheelchairs, rowing machines, cycling machines, ski racing, skeleton racing, rock climbing and so much more.
One of our very strong students even beat Mr. Lituri in an arm wrestle!
We got some happy snaps next to some cool memorabilia and experienced standing on the medal podiums.
We jumped back on the bus to arrive at our luxury accommodation for the next 4 nights. We settled into our rooms before being treated to a roast dinner and jelly and ice-cream for dessert!
We then shared in devotions where we had some great life discussions. Now we're getting settled for the night, grateful for our reverse cycle heaters in our rooms and off to dream sweet dreams, ready to see what Day 5 will bring.
